Near HOTEL SERHS del Port, you will find a magical place, full of history and charm that crowns the city
Very close to the hotel SERHS Del Port, there is a magical area, full of history and charm that crowns the city. Montjuïc, the mountain that presides over Barcelona, has become an iconic place that combines nature, history and modernity to perfection, since although most of its points of interest were built for the International Exhibition of 1929 and the 1992 Olympic Games, these were erected taking advantage of the spectacular landscape that Montjuïc offers and without taking away any of its charm.
Montjuïc is the green lung of Barcelona, becoming a mountain that covers several faces and well deserves, at least, a full morning of dedication. If you are looking for a hotel near Montjuïc, SERHS Del Port Hotel provides you with the ideal location to explore this magical part of Barcelona.
What to see in Montjuic
Plaça Espanya and the Fountain
At the gates of Montjuïc we find Plaza Espanya, which is one of the main traffic crossroads of the city, with streets as important as the Gran Vía de les Corts Catalanes and Paral·lel Avenue crossing it. In the center of the square there is a majestic fountain designed by Josep Maria Jujol, of classic inspiration and representing a poetic allegory to the country. In the square there are also other points of interest such as Las Arenas shopping center, an old bullring, or the Torres Venecianes (Venetian Towers).
National Museum of Art of Catalonia (MNAC)
Visiting this museum is an unforgettable trip. Housed in the impressive National Palace, it displays an extensive collection of the evolution of Catalan art through history, from the medieval era to the avant-garde. You can find in it pieces of such important masters as El Greco, Francisco de Zurbarán, Diego Velázquez, Antoni Gaudí, Ramón Casas, Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso…
In front of it stands the imposing Montjuïc Magic Fountain inaugurated with the Universal Exhibition of 1929, with a pool of 50x65 meters and more than 4,000 lights that illuminate it, creating spectacular shows accompanied by music. Although the entrance is free, if you want to see it, it is advisable to go ahead if you do not want to run out of place.
Montjuïc Castle
At 173 meters high and enjoying incomparable views of the city, the sea and the port, the Castle of Montjuïc presides over the city. Formerly it was a military enclosure that crowned the mountain, but after diverse remodeling like its use as a prison after Spanish Civil War, it ended up becoming a castle and was yielded to the city of Barcelona. In it you can enjoy some temporary exhibitions.
Joan Miró Foundation
Inside the Parc de Montjuïc (Montjuïc Park) there is a museum dedicated to Joan Miró, with over 5,000 objects that perfectly reflect the creativity of the famous surrealist artist. The space is complemented by a cafeteria and a book shop.
Poble Espanyol (Spanish Village)
This small town created for EXPO 1929 contains buildings constructed with different architectural styles typical of different provinces of Spain. Its charm is incomparable, since, in addition to perfectly imitating a town, with its houses, streets and even a Main Square, within it you can enjoy various craftsmen workshops, where to acquire a very special souvenir made by hand.
Anilla Olímpica (Olympic Ring)
This set of installations was the main stage of the Olympic Games of 1992. In it we find buildings such as the Palau Sant Jordi, -where currently important events are held, such as concerts of international stars-, the Olympic Stadium Lluís Companys or the Sport Olympic Museum Joan A. Samaranch.
Mies van der Rohe Pavilion
Halfway between Plaza España and the MNAC, we find a modern building. This emblematic pavilion was designed by van de Rohe also for the EXPO of 1929. In it you can discover more about the famous German architect as well as contemporary architecture.
